2025 Service Planning Retreat
Posted on December 3, 2025
On Friday 28 November, Staff Service Coordinators and student leaders from Years 4-11 met at the Friends’ Boatsheds in Lutana to engage in a Reflection and Planning Retreat for the Service Program in 2026.

Participants heard from Elisa Ryan, Projects and Events Coordinator from Volunteering Tasmania, who spoke to the students about the nature of volunteering, and the differences its impact makes in connecting people and building an inclusive community. Her session focussed on learning new approaches to organising volunteering, sharing of your own expertise, and the possibilities volunteering opens up through meaningful, reciprocal connections with others. The session concluded with students and staff engaged in Speed Networking – like speed dating, but sharing the volunteering they currently do, would be interested in, and any ideas they have about volunteering in the School or the community.

Student Representatives also had a refresher about Service Learning, and heard about new and expanded community partnerships with organisations in our local community such as Calvary Hospital, the Royal Hobart Hospital and COTA / Oakdale’s Generations Connect Tech Together Program. In the afternoon session, they engaged in some planning in vertically tiered groups with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals as a guide. We look forward to hearing more about their projects across the service, cultural, environmental and wellbeing programs offered in all sections of the School.
