Community Appreciation Day and Opening of The Revell Sports Centre

Posted on June 10, 2022

Each year the School expresses its appreciation for the many contributions of our community to Friends’ – whether that be time, funds, mind or items. These contributions have a direct and positive impact on Friends’ students and the School appreciates very deeply the enhanced educational journey it is able to offer students thanks to the support of our community.

The inaugural Community Appreciation Day that was held on 19 May 2022. The event was also the official naming and opening of The Revell Sports Centre. As guests arrived, eight talented students entertained guests with some wonderful busking- style musical performances. Head Boy Gryff Connah and Head Girl Shriya Anil officially welcomed guests, with Aboriginal Elder Auntie Brenda Hodge providing a Welcome to Country and acknowledging the First Nations People’s land that the School teaches on.

Board Member, alumna and current parent, Natalia Urosevic, addressed the guests, which included acknowledging our amazing volunteers and donors. Natalia also provided an inspiring launch of Illuminate – Campaign for The Friends’ School.

Principal Nelson File spoke about Richard Revell (class of 1953) and why the School has named the new Sports Centre in his honour. Guests were heartened to hear and learn about Richard’s time at Friends’ and how the School community positively impacted his life.

We were fortunate to have Richard’s family members, Brian, Lindsay and Lewis May at the event to help open The Revell Sports Centre.
