Welcome New Principal Esther Hill

Posted on January 30, 2024

We are thrilled to welcome Esther Hill as the new Principal of The Friends’ School, who commenced her role in early January 2024.

Esther is a progressive educator and leader with extensive experience in the co-educational, Pre-Kindergarten to Year 12 landscape. Esther’s ability to connect with others and her strong and personal alignment with the School’s Quaker ethos and values ensure that she will lead the School with passion, heart and courage. She looks forward to supporting our staff  in providing our students with an exceptional education in the Quaker tradition, that balances the academic, cultural, physical, social, emotional and spiritual development of each person.

“Leadership is about service. To lead is to serve a community. To understand the history that has come before. It is about deep listening and being present,” said Esther. “Being an educator is the best job in the world. It is a privilege to be able to support our young people to grow and develop and to find ways of flourishing and to serve in this role alongside our staff who are dedicated to that purpose.”

2024 is a year of new beginnings for many in the school community. Esther looks forward to sharing in the excitement and the challenges of the new, honouring the rich history of the past and looking toward a bright future alongside this wonderful community.

Esther and her daughter Eliza, along with Eric (the labradoodle) have enjoyed a warm and generous welcome to Hobart and they thank the Friends’ community and the Hobart Regional Meeting for their support and kindness. In the video below, Esther shares her thoughts about The Friends’ School and the privilege that it is to serve the School in the role of Principal, holding dearly the Quaker ethos and the Purpose and Concerns.

Esther looks forward to meeting students, families and alumni and the broader school community in the coming weeks and months.
