Years 8 to 10 Languages

Year 8 Languages 

The Year 8 Language course IMG_3665 croppedaims to develop the students’ ability to communicate in the selected language in the four skill areas of reading, writing, speaking and listening. Students also develop a range of strategies to enable them to engage successfully with foreign language speaking communities and cultures.

Emphasis is given to increasing literacy skills. These courses are full year, compulsory courses offered in the Languages listed below. Students who complete this program, having achieved a minimum satisfactory rating, will be equipped with the necessary foundations for entry level into the Year 9 Language courses.

  • Chinese     (Hao Ji le)
  • French (Touché! 1 – 3)
  • German (Klasse 1)
  • Japanese (Obento Deluxe)

Study of Languages can be the springboard for numerous options in employment and training, education, travel, leisure, community and family involvements.

Year 9 Languages

The Year 9 Language courses provide students Croissants smaller
with the opportunity to communicate in some detail about their daily life and the culture of the target country. They are designed to consolidate and extend the students’ knowledge and skills acquired in previous study of the respective languages. In addition, these courses continue to provide students with the opportunity to gain enhanced literacy, thinking and problem solving skills.

This program runs for the full year and is completed in two semester units. Students who complete this program, having achieved a minimum satisfactory rating, will be equipped with the necessary foundations for entry level into the Year 10 Language courses.

  • Chinese           (Chinese Made Easy 2)
  • French             (Touché! 4)
  • German           (Klasse 1 cont’d and Klasse 2)
  • Japanese         (Obento Supreme)

Students who study a language learn to communicate in their chosen target language in a variety of contexts, using modern, relevant texts and resources.

Year 10 Languages

These courses aim to consolidate and IMG_0253extend the skills acquired in Year 9. In Year 10 students are introduced to the more complex aspects of the languages and should reach the prerequisite level for pre-tertiary study by the end of the courses. Students are encouraged to make connections within and across languages in order to develop an understanding of the culture, language and people of the target country.

Students who complete this program, having achieved a solid satisfactory rating, will be well equipped with the necessary foundations for entry level into the 3C pre-tertiary courses or the IB Language B courses.

The increasing use of technology means that students have more direct contact than ever before with the people and events in the countries where the chosen language is spoken.
