Recent Sporting Highlights

IMG_0041 croppedIn 2015, 52 Friends’ students were accepted into a State team. This included 12 Australian Junior representatives, in sports including Hockey, Sailing, Slalom Canoeing and Underwater Hockey.

AFL: in 2016, for the first time since the mid-1990s, Friends’ will field a team in the Firsts Statewide roster.

Rowing: participation at Friends’ continues to be strong with approximately 120 students participating in rowing. The School finished the Head of the River with Girls Senior 8s named as Champions and Girls U/16 also named as Champions. There were multiple wins and placings by younger crews.

Sailing 2015: For the third year, The Friends’ School team were selected for the Australian Sailing team against New Zealand for the Interdominion Schools Team Racing Championship.

Soccer: continues to be a growth sport with a high number of participants in both boys’ and girls’ teams. Senior Girls were SSATIS runners up, as were 7/8 Girls and 9/10 Girls.

2016_02_swimming carnival - 03Swimming: Friends’ teams gained the 2016 SSATIS Coeducational Shield and Girls Junior Shield, with SATIS Girls named as Junior Shield winners for the first time in 10 years.

Tennis: Senior Girls were SATIS State finalists with strong participation rates in all year levels.

Waterpolo: another growth area of participation with 110 students from Years 7 to 12 participating. The Year 8 boys team were named as Champions in 2015.
