2018 Pre-Tertiary Academic Achievements

A group of male and female students working on their laptops in the library.The Friends’ School 2018 Leavers achieved excellent results. Of the 156 Year 12 students who studied for the Tasmanian Certificate of Education (TCE) and International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB) in 2018:

  • 20 TCE and IB students (12.8%) achieved scores that convert to an ATAR of 98.5 or above – Top 100 in Tasmania;
  • 77 students (49.4%) achieved an ATAR of 90 and above; and
  • The average ATAR for our 2018 cohort was 87.22.

The TCE Top 100 receives scrutiny each year across Tasmania and for 2018 the names of the Top 100 ‘Top of the Class’ students were published. The list included 18 Friends’ School students who completed the TCE. We also had an additional two students who made it to the Top 100 but wished to remain unnamed.

Principal Nelson File and Friends’ staff appreciate the value of academic achievements and actively promote a strong culture of learning at Friends’, which permeates throughout the whole school. The work that begins in Morris with the IB Primary Years Programme is strengthened by Friends’ High School teachers, and this secure grounding typically enables each student to achieve their best in Years 11 and 12.

The 2018 results reflect the entire Friends’ School community.  The Principal and staff would also like to acknowledge the contributions from parents, which are integral to Friends’ continuing its strong history of delivering leading academic results.
