2016 Academic Achievements

A group of male and female students working on their laptops in the library. The Friends’ School 2016 Leavers again achieved excellent results. Of the 140 Year 12 students who studied for the Tasmanian Certificate of Education (TCE) and International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB) in 2016:

  • 16 students (11.4%) achieved scores that convert to an ATAR of 98.5 or above; and
  • 70 students (50%) achieved an ATAR of 90 and above.

The TCE Top 100 receives scrutiny each year across Tasmania and for 2016 the names of the Top 102 ‘Top of the Class’ students were published. The list included 14 Friends’ School students who completed the TCE.

Additionally, if the 24 students who studied for the IB are considered, another 2 Friends’ students received scores that would have placed them on this list. When the 14 TCE and 2 IB students who achieved these scores are considered together, Friends’ students in total comprised 15.4% of the Tasmanian Top of the Class list for 2016.

Principal Nelson File and Friends’ staff appreciate the value of academic achievements and actively promote a strong culture of learning at Friends’, which permeates throughout the whole school. The work that begins in Morris with the IB Primary Years Programme is strengthened by Friends’ High School teachers, and this secure grounding typically enables each student to produce their best in Years 11 and 12.

The 2016 results reflect the entire Friends’ School community.  The Principal and staff would also like to acknowledge the contributions from parents, which are integral to Friends’ continuing its strong history of delivering leading academic results.
