A reminder that this Monday (11 December) is our Year 10 Twilight Assembly. This event is our formal farewell to our Year 10 students and we encourage all families to attend. Students need to arrive at The Farrall Centre at 5.15pm – wearing full formal uniform. The Assembly begins at 6.00pm and should finish at approximately 7.15pm.
Thank you from the HoHs
We, the Heads of High School, would like to wish all our families an enjoyable and restful Summer break and thank staff and students for their efforts this semester. We are happy to be finishing the year knowing that many of our students have made strong progress in the many aspects of their busy school lives. We look forward to the new year with new students excited about starting at Friends’ and the opportunity to continue working with our current students and families.
The four Houses – Hodgkin, Mather, Ransome and Unwin will gather for a shared breakfast on the morning of 14 December. Each Tutor group has been asked to contribute to the menu for this day. Tutor groups will move to an outdoor breakfast at 9.00am where they can share a casual start to what will be a busy half day.
Year 7 – 9 Assembly
Our final High School Assembly for the year will begin at 10.45am in The Farrall Centre on 14 December. Parents and family members are welcome. We are anticipating a prompt start so please arrive early. Seating for parents and family will be in the top tiers so please enter the venue through the top glass doors.
Year 5 – 8 Musical
The 5-8 Musical for 2018 is Shrek The Musical Junior by Jeanine Tesori and David Lindsay-Abaire. ‘Beauty is in the eye of the Ogre’… this musical is based on the well-known animated movie and full-scale Broadway production. The Junior version is described as letting the audience follow our favourite ogre Shrek on a journey of self-discovery ‘with a cast of fairytale misfits on an adventure to rescue a princess and find true acceptance’.
Lots of green, swampy fun, and a fresh, contemporary musical for our younger students to explore, learn and ultimately share with a live audience over three shows.
The roles are decided through a formal audition process, with the final casting dependent on the number of roles and demonstration of skills by the students at their audition, as well as their capacity to commit fully to the rehearsal schedule and shows.
Auditions are open to students in Years 5-8 who have singing, acting and /or dancing experience. However, all students in these year groups with an interest in Musical Theatre are encouraged to audition for a role on stage, as this is also an important learning experience in the Performing Arts. Auditions will take place on Sunday 25 February with call backs arranged on Monday 26 February and Tuesday 27 February as required.
Information will be shared via a 5-8 Musical Shrek Jr school website, with regular notices shared through What’s On.
The performances will be in The Farrall Centre from Friday 25 May (7pm evening performance), and Saturday 26 May (1:30pm matinee and 7pm evening performance). The rehearsal schedule will be available prior to auditions so families can check their availability. There are some public and school holiday rehearsals.
Further questions to Adele Harding (Direction), Kerry Bennett (Musical Direction), Marty Crerar (Production Management).
