Next Morris Assembly – 28 November
Due to the TCE/IB Art Exhibition being held in The Farrall Centre the next Morris Assembly will be on Tuesday 28 November.
Music Ensemble Rehearsals
All Morris music ensembles will continue rehearsing until the end of Week 8 of term, with the last rehearsals for the year taking place on Friday 8 December. There will be no rehearsals in the final week of term. Students should continue attending rehearsals as usual until then.
The polar fleece jumpers and spray jackets have been removed from the High School and Clemes uniforms for four years now and with the introduction of the warmer rugby top, we are going to cease the wearing of the polar fleeces and spray jackets at Morris from next year, also. The polar fleece vests are a different garment and are still current uniform throughout K-12.
National Chess Championships
Students from Years 4, 5 and 6 will be travelling to Melbourne to represent the School at the National Chess Championships on Monday 27 and Tuesday 28 November.
Fire Education – Monday 27 November to Friday 1 December
A firefighter from the Tasmania Fire Service (TFS) is visiting our school to present a Home Fire Safety Program to our students from Prep through to Year 6.
The age appropriate program is designed to raise fire awareness in children and includes fun in class activities, videos, activity books, website and giveaways.
Parents and other family members are also encouraged to participate by reading the information and assisting your child with the after school activities.
The TFS aims to deliver appropriate fire safety education to every primary school child in Tasmania and is part of the TFS’s ongoing commitment to create a fire safe Tasmania.
Year 5 Outdoor Education Day – Monday 27 November
On Monday 27 November, all three Year 5 classes will be heading to Seven Mile Beach for an Outdoor Education activity day. Students will depart by bus from School at 9.15am for the northern end of Seven Mile Beach. In small groups students will undertake a series of rotations including introduction to trangia skills, tarpology, water course challenge, and plank walking to begin preparations for future Outdoor Education camps. Please ensure your child has adequate food, drink and clothing including a raincoat, sun hat, sunscreen and personal medication in a waterproofed daypack. The group will return to school by 3.00pm.
Year 2 Parents’ Orientation for 2018 – Wednesday 29 November
Current Year 2 parents are invited for an informal tour of Walpole on Wednesday 29 November. If you would like to attend please meet Anne Potter, Wendy Crow and Mary-Margaret Gibson outside the Music room at 2.45pm.
Year 6 Camp – Thursday 30 November to Friday 1 December
On Thursday 30 November, Year 6 will be attending their annual camp at Orford. This camp concludes their Outdoor Education program at Morris, as well as focussing on their Sharing the Planet inquiry. They will depart the School on Thursday morning at 9.00am and return by 2.30pm on Friday 1 December. Students may be collected from the drive-through on Friday from 2.30pm. Additional information about camp has been provided for parents through CareMonkey and additional notices. If you have any questions please contact one of the Year 6 teachers.
K-2 Sports Day – 1 December
The K-2 Sports Day will be held on Friday 1 December commencing at 12.00pm on the bottom green (Argyle Street campus). Parents and friends are invited to attend.
Moving On Day – 4 December
Moving On Day is on Monday 4 December. The purpose of this day is to establish positive relationships between next year’s teachers and classmates before the long holiday. It is also a wonderful opportunity to introduce our new students into the School.
Students will spend time with their teacher for next year and get to know their new classmates. Parents of new students are invited to stay on, to meet specialist teachers and to be informed about the IB PYP Morris Curriculum. The morning will finish with a short assembly at 10.30am, followed by morning tea for new students and families.
Families will receive a note at the end of this day communicating their classroom teacher for 2018. We have taken great care to ensure that the 2018 class groups support all the children’s best interests and learning needs. We value your support in making this a positive transition.
Primary Schools Triathlon Challenge – 8 December
A reminder to those Year 5/6 students entered in the Primary Schools Triathlon Challenge that it is to be held on Friday 8 December at Bellerive Beach. Students involved will travel by bus to and from the venue. More information will come home in due course. Any enquires please contact Lisa DiVenuto
Colony 47 Christmas Appeal
The Morris Stewardship Group are collecting goods for the Colony 47 Christmas Appeal. We would appreciate your support by donating the following non-perishable goods; fruit cake/Christmas pudding, chocolate, biscuits/crackers, canned food, drinking chocolate coffee/tea, long life milk, pasta/noodles, cereal/breakfast bars, tinned corn beef, readymade meals in cans, new take away food containers and wrapping paper. Goods can be brought to the classrooms during the week beginning Monday 4 December 2017 or left at the End of Year Gathering on the evening of Wednesday 6 December 2017. Staff from Colony 47 will collect the goods from school on Thursday 7 December 2017.
