Hats in Term 4
A reminder to families that students are required to wear hats when outside in Term 4. Please ensure your child’s hat is packed in their bag.
Year 3-6, Morris Athletics Carnival – 23 October
The Morris Athletics Carnival will be held on Monday 23 October at the Domain Athletics Centre for all students in Years 3-6. Students are required to make their own way to the Domain by 9.00am, with supervision provided from 8.15am. The carnival concludes at 3.00pm. Students need to be picked up promptly by 3.10pm otherwise they will walk back to school with class teachers. Programs have been sent home. Year 6 Visiting Southern Christian College Exhibition – 24 October
Year 6 will be travelling to Southern Christian College next Tuesday 24 October to view the School’s 2017 Exhibition. We will be travelling by bus, leaving school at 1.15pm and returning for the end of the day. Students will need to be dressed in their formal uniform for this activity. If you have any questions relating to this visit, please contact one of the Year 6 teachers.
Wells Assembly – 24 October
There will be no Wells Assembly on Tuesday 24 October in Week 2 due to Grandparents and Older Friends Day on Wednesday 25 October.
Grandparents and Older Friends Day – 25 October
Grandparents and Older Friends Day will be held on Wednesday 25 October commencing with Morris Assembly at 12.00pm in The Farrall Centre and concluding with afternoon tea at 2.00pm with Principal Nelson File and Head of Morris Mary-Margaret Gibson. Classrooms will operate as usual and there will be opportunities for visitors to observe and participate. Invitations have been sent to families and we look forward to welcoming Grandparents and Older Friends on the day. As parking is limited we suggest you leave sufficient time to find space in nearby streets. Grandparents will be looked after if they are dropped off while someone parks the car. Japanese Speech Competition – 30 October
On Monday 30 October our Japanese Speech competition team from Years 3 – 6 will travel to the C3 Church at 64 Anglesea Street, South Hobart to compete in the Australia – Japan Society (Tasmania) Japanese Speech Competition 2017. They will give a speech written in Japanese in front of judges and students across Tasmania. We will need to leave school promptly at 8.20am as our younger students will be competing at 9.00am. We will return to school at 12.30pm. Students will need to wear full school uniform and bring a water bottle. Good luck to those who are participating!
Year 2 Musical – 1 November
Year 2 students will be performing the musical, The Selfish Ladybirds. Everyone has been working hard to learn their lines, songs and actions and we can’t wait to share this with you.
The performance will be in The Farrall Centre on Wednesday 1 November at 2.15pm.
K-6 Incursion – Sharing Culture – 1 November
Gwenda Stanely has delighted children of all ages for many years with her natural, engaging, gentle manner. Gwenda will use dance, story, artefacts and language to share with students her unique and rich Aboriginal culture. There will be two performances, one for Kindergarten to Year 2, and then Years 3 to 6.
Music Count Us In – 2 November
Since 2010, Morris has participated in national music advocacy program, Music Count Us In. This program has grown in recent years and now sees over half a million students across the country celebrate music by performing the same song together at the same time on the same day. Morris will join in the celebration at 12.30pm on Thursday 2 November in The Farrall Centre.
Morris Showcase Concert – 2 November
Our second major School Music Concert for the year will comprise of only Morris ensembles. It will be in The Farrall Centre on Thursday 2 November, commencing at 6.00pm. The following groups will perform:

Year 3 Marimba Ensemble

Performing students will need to arrive between 5.15 and 5.30pm and wear their performance uniforms. Further details will be outlined in an email to parents shortly.
Entry to the concert is free and all are welcome to attend. Students will need to stay until the conclusion of the concert, as all students will be involved in a special finale item.
Year 4 Outdoor Education to Roches Beach – 14 November
Year 3’s final Outdoor Education day is on Tuesday 14 November to Roches Beach and the Lauderdale area. We will be walking along the sand and a beach track to explore the natural environment. During the excursion we will engage the children in team-building activities that involve problem solving and decision-making. Please ensure your child has a packed lunch and drink, sunhat, sunscreen and is wearing suitable footwear. School uniform is not required, but please ensure students are dressed appropriately for the weather on the day. Also include a rain jacket and warm jumper, just in case.
