Casual Dress Day – Wednesday 25 October
Clemes students are holding a Casual Dress Day for a gold coin donation, on Wednesday 25 October, for Kingborough Helping Hands. This organisation delivers meals to homeless people and people in need every Thursday night.  They work in conjunction with St Vincent de Paul and use one of their vans to deliver the food.

End of Year Gathering Giving Tree
All tutor groups at Clemes are asked to donate items for the End of Year Gathering Giving Tree which will be donated to Colony 47. Colony 47 organises a Christmas lunch for people who are homeless or on their own at Christmas time. The lunch is for about 400 people and a gift is given to all those who attend. Students from The Friends’ School have been involved with donating gifts, serving lunch and giving out the presents. A list of the type of items needed has been put in tutor folders. Gifts can be left in the boxes under the giving tree in the Clemes foyer. This is a whole school activity and other sections of the School will have the opportunity to donate later in the term.

MS Society – Year 12 Leavers’ Fundraising
As part of celebrating their final weeks as Friends’ School students the 2017 Leavers will be participating in a colour run. By participating students will not only mark this important mile-stone, they will also raise money for the MS Society. Each Year 12 student is asked to donate $5 to participate. We also welcome donations from the wider School community. If you would like to donate please visit our fund raising page here.

News for TCE Students
Students and parents have been emailed a copy of the TASC external assessment handbook. Students have also received hard copies. The handbook contains important information about the forthcoming examinations including details of how students can register to receive Early Release Results and what to do in the event of a student not being able to sit an exam.

TCE Student Notice of Enrolment
TCE students received their Notice of Enrolment forms this week. Each year every TCE student is provided with a Notice of Enrolment form, together with a Student Guide to the Examinations. This notice of enrolment form contains personal details, as well as listing all the TCE subjects enrolled for the current assessment year. These forms need to be presented to gain entry to the examination room.
If for some reason a student loses their Notice of Enrolment they must contact Lyn Tunbridge or Adam Chambers to obtain a new one prior to their examinations. If the personal information contained on the notice of enrolment form is incorrect, please make the necessary alterations on the form and return it to Adam Chambers. Adam will then take a photocopy and forward it to the TQA for amendment.
The address printed on this Notice of Enrolment form is the same address to which your results will be posted at the end of the year.

Leavers’ Events
On Monday 23 October we have the Leavers’ Assembly between 12 noon until 1pm.  At this assembly Leavers’ certificates, sports, music, drama, debating, service and other special awards are presented. In addition two of our Year 12 students have prepared a slide show of leaving students.

Year 12 IB students
Year 12 IB students have their last day of classes on Monday 23 October, with exams commencing on Tuesday 31 October. We wish our students well in their exams.

Jean Yeates Writing Prize
Congratulations to Freya Cox for winning the 2017 Jean Yeates Writing Prize. Sponsored by the Old Scholars’ Association, the prize is awarded at the beginning of Term 4 each year in memory of Jean, who joined the School staff in 1950. She had a passion for the English language and is remembered for her teaching of the classic novels and poetry to enthralled classes. Freya’s clever and elegant story captured the heart of this year’s judge, Claire Konkes. Claire is a journalist and lectures in Journalism, Media and Communications at the University of Tasmania where she teaches news journalism and media writing. The theme for this year was ‘The Biggest Lie’.
