Student Led Conversations – 11 September to 22 September
In Weeks 8 and 9 of this term, Morris students from Kinder to Year 5 will guide families through a conversation about their learning. This is an opportunity for parents to celebrate their child’s progress and to enable the students to articulate their thinking and discuss what they have learnt from their inquiries. We encourage all parents to come. This is an important event in the calendar each year for Morris children. Two weeks prior, we will send an invitation to families to make an appointment for these Student Led Conversations.
In lieu of Student Led Conversations, Year 6 parents are invited to attend the Year 6 Exhibition Open Classrooms each Tuesday from 12.00pm – 1.00pm and each Thursday from 2.15pm to 3.15pm starting in Week 6, 29 August and running through until the end of Week 9, 22 September. All Morris families are also invited to share in the Year 6 Exhibition evening on Thursday 28 September, from 5.30pm – 7.00pm.

Kindergarten Excursion – Exploring the Forest – 12 September
Kindergarten children will be visiting Waterworks Reserve on Tuesday 12 September. The bus will leave at 9.30am and return at approximately 2.30pm. We will be exploring the forest, identifying the relationship between the living and non-living things in a forest ecosystem. The experience has been designed by the team at Forest Education Foundation. Children will wear their uniform and need sturdy footwear, warm and waterproof jackets as well as a substantial lunch! Families are welcome to join us for the day.

International Day of Peace, Morris Assembly – 19 September
On Tuesday 19 September Morris – Friends’ Primary Years will be introducing the concept of peace at the Morris Assembly at 9.00am in The Farrall Centre. In the days following the assembly, children will be thinking about and identifying their own actions of peace within our school community. We intend to collaboratively create an art installation during Tuesday and Wednesday that celebrates and acknowledges peaceful actions and interactions that occur around Morris. Our activities will conclude with a 15 to 20 minute ceremony to recognise International Peace Day under the plane tree outside the Morris library at 10.35am on Thursday 21 September.

Students are encouraged to think about self-management in the outdoors by wearing and packing appropriate gear. Kindergarten Excursion – Red Chapel Beach Sandy Bay – 21 September
On Thursday 21 September Kindergarten children will visit the Little Penguin Project at Red Chapel Beach to learn how colonies of Little Penguins on the Derwent River are being protected by volunteers. They will meet Peter Vertigan who is a steward of this particular beach in Hobart and beaches on Bruny Island. He will show the children some of the ways people have helped protect their habitats and support the survival and breeding of Little Penguins. We will travel by bus from school at 12.30pm and return by 2.30pm. Families are invited to join in our learning. Afternoon tea will be provided and children will just take their water bottles.
