Kinder Open Mornings

We have limited availability for our 2018 Kindergarten classes. Meet our teachers, see our facilities and discuss first hand what it’s like to be part of the Friends’ Kindergarten and our community.
Morning tea will be provided for children and parents.

Annual German Speech Competition
On Tuesday 5 September the Annual German ‘Goethe’ Competition will be held at the University of Tasmania.
Eight students representing each year level from Year 7 to Year 12 have been selected to compete in various sections including poetry recitation, reading and listening comprehension, conversation and a poster competition.
Students will be transported to the venue on the school bus under the supervision of Britta Hartmann.
We hope they will have a great experience and wish them well.

Virtuosi Contemporary Guitar Concert – Friday 8 September
We look forward to hosting internationally acclaimed guitarists Stig Mathisen and Richard Smith when they are visiting Tasmania. The two will present a public concert in The Farrall Centre on Friday 8 September, commencing at 7pm.
Several of our UTAS College Contemporary Music students will also perform as will the Clemes Combo Group.
Tickets are: $20 for adults; $10 for students / concession. Tickets may be purchased from TryBooking. Friends’ students will be admitted free of charge by either showing their student card at the door or also obtaining a ticket through TryBooking (code provided in a previous email).
The concert will be preceded by a workshop for guitarists at 4pm the same day. All Friends’ School guitar players are encouraged to participate.

Wanted – Items for Year 12 Production of The Arabian Nights, 19 & 20 October.
The Year 12 Theatre Performance class are underway with rehearsals of an abridged version of Mary Zimmerman’s The Arabian Nights based on some of the well know tales. We are looking to borrow or have donated a number of items for the production. Items would be well cared for, then cleaned and returned the week beginning 23 October.
Wanted:
Floor Rugs: Persian/Turkish/Moroccan traditional style/patterned rugs and or runners of any size, any condition (perhaps not the family heirloom!)
Floor cushions: any size or colour
Throw rugs/bedspreads: Persian, Turkish, Moroccan traditional patterned of any size
Items are needed now and can be left at the Main School Office off Commercial Road, or collected from you if needed.
Also, if you are keen to have a clean out and have any fabric, cushion covers or other items that might be suitable for our production please contact Tammy Giblin.

Roxfam Concert in The Farrall Centre
High School and Clemes students are invited to the Roxfam Concert on Wednesday, 6 September in The Farrall Centre which will run from 6.30pm – 9.00pm. Tickets cost $10 and all proceeds will be donated to Oxfam for the famine in Africa and Yemen. You can purchase tickets here.

Your Health Link – National Photographic Competition 
The Mid North Coast Local Health District MNCLHD (NSW Health) has launched the second Your Health Link National Photographic Competition, with the theme ‘Healthy Life | Healthy You’.  The competition is designed to increase health literacy and is open to all Australian primary and high school students.
There are $45,000 in prizes which includes funding to support healthy school canteen programs or similar initiatives.
