Year 1 Outdoor Education to Knocklofty Reserve – 10 August
On Thursday 10 August, Year 1 will be embarking on a bush day to Knocklofty Reserve. Class teachers, gap students and Nicola Hughes, our outdoor education teacher, will accompany the students on the excursion. We will be departing school at 9.30am and returning at 1.40pm. The aim of the day is to explore local bushland while developing mapping skills and utilising the students’ thinking skills to create shelters and communities for local animals. Students are required to wear their physical education uniform and sturdy shoes. They are also to bring a backpack with morning tea and lunch, rain jacket, water bottle, a warm jumper, beanie, gloves and any required personal medication. Preparation for cold weather conditions is essential. As students will be developing independence and cooperative skills, parent assistance is not required for this trip.

Scholastic Book Club – orders due 10 August
Scholastic Book Club catalogues were distributed to the children this week. Could all orders please be completed by Thursday 10 August. Payment can be made by credit card or cheque and by completing the order form attached to the catalogues and returning this to school. Alternatively, you can submit your order online through LOOP.  Please don’t send cash to school.

No Wells Assembly – 15 August
Please note that Wells Assembly will not be held on Tuesday 15 August.  The students will instead be involved in science based activities in their vertical groups, in support of National Science Week.  Your child’s vertical group is made up of one student from each year level at Morris (Prep – 6). We welcome parents to join us in the fun of carrying out science experiments between 9.00am and 10.00am.

Premier’s Reading Challenge – through to 18 August
To promote the pleasure and importance of reading, we are once again participating in The Premier’s Reading Challenge (PRC) and are encouraging all Prep – Year 6 students to read 10 books in 10 weeks – from now until Friday 18 August. Information about the PRC can be found on their website: https://premiersreadingchallenge.tas.gov.au/. The PRC is not a competition, but a challenge for children to read more, read more widely and reflect on what they have read. Students who would easily read 10 books in 10 weeks are encouraged to challenge themselves in different ways (eg include some books that are more difficult for them, and try authors and genres they have not read before). Ultimately, it is about quality not quantity. Detailed information has been emailed to families this week.
