House Rowing

Rowing in a House competition was first suggested in the Echoes of June 1930, but was held for the first time in 1935, made possible as a result of the provision of boats by the Buckingham Rowing Club. Senior and junior races were held, with Mather winning both. Between 1935 and 1947 Mather was the leading House, winning House rowing on eight occasions, one of those wins, in 1943, being equal with Ransome.

There is no further record of House rowing until 1954, with the new House, Unwin, winning that year and in 1955. No House rowing was held in 1958 as boats could not be obtained, and the last year of House rowing recorded in Echoes is 1968, when Mather again won.

From the information in Echoes, Mather won eleven Competitions, Hodgkin five, Ransome four and newer House Unwin two.
