High School

High School at Friends' consists of Years 7 to 10 and is located on the Commercial Road campus. The High School is home to more than 550 students in four houses (Hodgkin, Mather, Ransome, Unwin) and 32 vertically integrated tutor groups. Each tutor group of 18 students usually consists of students from each year group to maintain continuity and a culture where the older students support the younger students.

The Houses are led by a Head of House who is responsible for eight tutor groups each. The Heads of House, Greg Hill, Lyn Johnston, Bob Scandrett and Susan Williams, are also co-Heads of High School as well as carrying a teaching load in their subject area. These shared roles ensure senior staff are closely involved with students on a daily basis.

Each student participates in a range of subjects from the eight faculty areas, with all students in Year 7 having a taste of each subject, including four languages. In Years 8, 9 and 10 students gradually tighten their focus on preferred subjects suited to their future educational needs. Subject information is available in the Year 7, Year 8 and Year 9/10 Handbooks in the sidebar.

Students are also involved in a wide range of co-curricular activities including music, drama, art, community service and sport. Everyone is encouraged to participate in co-curricular activities and students who achieve certain levels of attainment can qualify for awards in Music, Service and Sport to complement annual academic awards.

The High School Handbook explains the School's position on computer ethics, student behaviour, drugs, bullying, etc.
