Dance

Students gain experience in dance in many sections of the school. As a kinaesthetic art form it is a natural and meaningful way for students to express themselves and ideas.

As a component of the Physical Education program students engage in dance activities as a means of developing coordination and as a form of exercise. In Music, dance is a way of actively listening to music whilst in Drama creative movement is a means of exploring the use of three dimensional space and of using the body as a vehicle for effective communication.

We have a specialist dance program in the High School in Years 8 to 10 in which students acquire basic technique from the classical tradition whilst also gaining experience in a range of contemporary dance styles. Dance at Friends' is not just about developing dance technique but is also about using moving in creative ways through dance-making and student-based choreography.
