2007 Academic Achievements

Congratulations

The Friends' School community congratulates the 2007 Year 12 Leavers on their outstanding TCE and International Baccalaureate results. Their achievements were once again unmatched by any other school or college in the State. Nine Friends' students were in Tasmania's group of top 32 pre-tertiary students.
While it is impressive that 56.7% of our TCE and 72.2% of our IB students were ranked in the top 10% of Australian students we are more thrilled by how well the whole Year 12 cohort performed, with 96.6% of the group matriculating.
Obviously, these results could not have happened without a great deal of hard work, dedication and a love of learning. I also firmly believe that they reflect the caring and supportive partnership of students, families and teachers that is so characteristic of the culture of Friends'.
We know that many of our students will use these results, along with the values they have developed as Friends' students, to pursue their passions and live adventurously. It is with this knowledge that we wish them every good fortune in achieving their aims.

Principal’s Report on 2007 Pre-tertiary Examination Results

Key to Abbreviations: TCE is Tasmanian Certificate of Education. The TCE consists of a range of one-year subjects. Most students study four or five subjects each year. IB is the International Baccalaureate. IB consists of two-year subjects and all students study six subjects for two years. Both the TCE and the IB are pre-tertiary qualifications culminating at Year 12.

TER is Tertiary Entrance Ranking, a ranking of all Year 12 students in Australia. TE Score is Tertiary Entrance Score, an accumulation of the student's best five subject scores in Years 11 and 12, with a maximum of two subjects to count from Year 11. TE Scores are theoretically out of 20 per subject but can be scaled higher or lower than 20 depending on the perceived degree of difficulty in the examination and the subject.
