Scholarships
Scholarships and Bursaries to The Friends' School
The Friends' School offers a range of scholarships and bursaries to assist students meet the financial requirements of attendance at Friends'. Some scholarships and bursaries are funded from bequests and gifts to the School, while others are funded from the School's financial reserves.
Scholarships
Each year, Friends' offers scholarships to students entering Years 5, 7 and 11. These scholarships are allocated on a competitive basis with qualification consisting of an examination and interview. Music scholarships also have a audition requirement.
Subject to an annual review of performance, Years 7 and 11 scholarships are tenable to the end of Year 12. Year 5 scholarships are tenable to the end of Year 6. Holders are welcome to apply for Year 7 scholarships.
The school also offers a small number of scholarships for students not already at Friends' to enrol in the International Baccalaureate Diploma. These are tenable for years 11 & 12.
Applications for scholarships are advertised in Term 1 with examinations held in early May. For more information on scholarship procedures please contact the Enrolment Office.
Bursaries
From time to time the School is able offer bursaries in particular year groups for students not already attending Friends'. The quantum of support varies from application to application and from year to year.
Bursaries are awarded in accordance with family need and based on previous educational performance and contribution to life at the student's current school.
There is no examination for bursaries but families will be expected to make available a range of financial information to allow assessment of their application. Applications are assessed by the Fees Assistance Committee of the Board of Governors and all details are held in confidence.
The Board may, from time to time, offer targeted bursaries to assist students from certain special groups. These are advertised in the local media and on this website.
